Interview: Kid Cudi Talks Working With Kanye, G.O.O.D. Music's Brotherhood, and His Next Solo Project

It’s been four years since Scott Mescudi was summoned to Hawaii by Kanye West to help put together 808s & Heartbreak. Scott, better known as Kid Cudi, made major contributions to multiple songs on the album and the association with 'Ye helped launch his music career.
Back then, Cudi was an unpolished rookie on the music circuit, and it was West who saw greatness in the young Cleveland artist early on. In Cudi’s first Complex cover story (he has now had five), ‘Ye propped Cudi as an originator of the melody-driven, sing-songy raps that populate the current hip-hop landscape. "Me and Cudi are the originators of the style, kinda like what Alexander McQueen is to fashion, everything else is just Zara and H&M," West said in 2009.
Things are different now. Kid Cudi has received multiple Grammy nominations, put out two arguably classic albums (Man On The Moon: The End of Day and Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager), and most recently released genre-bending rock albumWZRD.
As his black SUV pulled up to G.O.O.D. Music's Complex cover shoot, it became clear that he’s more comfortable than ever. Dressed in his standard uniform of a vintage tee and a leather jacket and waxed jeans, both by Balmain, Cudi immediately daps up the crew, and cracks jokes with Pusha T and 2 Chainz. He prides himself on not fucking with other crews, and not only is Cudi loyal, but the once-heralded "Kanye protégé" is his own man.
During different photo shoot looks, we pulled Cud aside to talk just what being a member of G.O.O.D. means to him and what's next for his solo career.

13-Foot iPhone-Controlled Robot Travels at 6 mph for $1.3 Million
Designed by Suidobashi Heavy Industries, this 13-foot robot named Kuratas is a diesel-powered humanoid-robot weighing in at about 9,920 pounds. Kuratas was initially presented by the group of engineers at the annual Wonder Fest 2012 in Tokyo. The robot seats one person in it's cockpit, from which you can control it's four giant legs, wheels, waist, and two fully articulated arms. If that's not all wildly impressive enough for you, the robot also comes with a multi-rocket launcher (fires plastic rockets only) and two cannons that can shoot 6,000 plastic BBs per minute. Cop one now for $1.3 million and they'll even let you customize the color and upholstery.
What does someone actually do with one of these, you ask? Well, we're not entirely sure, but check out the video below to see it in action.See More Here

Amazon Launches Music Matching Service

Amazon Launches Music Matching Service
Amazon is stepping up its assault on the digital music industry. The online retailer today announced a new music-match service that will scan users computers for music files and create a copy that will be stored in the Cloud Player.
According to Reuters, Amazon signed deals with hundreds of music labels and publishers including "Sony Music Entertainment, EMI Music, VivendiSA's Universal Music Group, and Warner Music Group," that allows them to "create new versions of customers' digital music files."
Similar to iTunes Match, which was launched by Apple in 2011, the Amazon service would "match" any song purchased from the Amazon MP3 Store for free. It will also create copies of 250 songs not purchased from Amazon for free, but after that users will have to pay $25 to match up to 250,000 foreign music files.
The songs stores in the cloud will available for use with any Internet-connected device: Kindle Fires, iPhones, iPads, Android tablets and smartphones.

Akon owns a plethora of expensive luxury cars, so when he says his Spyker C8 Spyder SWB is his favorite, it's no joke. This particular Spyker was given a full customization by Miami's Exclusive Motoring, including 20-inch staggered SV-29s centerlock Savini forged wheels. Under the hood of these cars is an Audi-based 4.2-liter V8. Fantastic car, questionable aftermarket work.

Beats Audio Laces British Olympic Team with Custom Headphones

Beats Audio Laces British Olympic Team with Custom Headphones

Other than their world class talent, another common denominator between the British athletes performing in the 2012 Olympic Games is their custom, super limited edition Beats by Dre headphones.
Beats Audio designed a pair of Studio headphones with the Union flag colors and distributed them to all of the Team Great Britain members. Viewers could have seen them when a number of the athletes were being introduced to the audience (as seen above with diver Tom Daley), or when they were preparing to perform. Other players, like tennis player Laura Robson and soccer player Jack Butland, took to Twitter to express how happy they were with their new headphones. It all may seem like a harmless, kind gesture, but the intent was genius.
The International Olympic Committee does not allow non-rights holding companies to advertise around the Olympics. Beats Audio is not a rights holder. But seeing the British athletes on TV rocking the Beats by Dre headphones is better promotion than any commercial could provide. Genius.

Ryan Lochte’s Jewelers Offer Free Gold Grills To Any Team USA Member Who Wins Gold

Ryan Lochte’s mouthpiece might be the grill seen around the world. The Olympic games were just the perfect place to show off his bling, and he did so on the podium after he won against the favorite (and fellow American teammate) Michael Phelps, flashing a smile revealing a diamond-encrusted mouthpiece made by jewelers Paul Wall and Johnny Dang.
Every man, woman, and child probably wants a grill now, but in a recent interview with Miss Info, Paul Wall ups the ante by offering free gold grills to any Team USA member who wins gold. Let’s hope the athletes take advantage of this sweet offer by racking up some gold medals. You’re getting a grill that usually sells for $15,000-$25,000 at no cost. What other motivation do you need? Come on Team USA, go out there and stunt.

We know, we know. You're shocked, right? Thanks to 16-point efforts from Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Love,Team USA managed to squeak by Tunisia in their second game of the 2012 Summer Olympics. Er, okay, so "squeak" might be not be the right word to use there—the Americans won 110-63—but, hey: Tunisia was only down by 13 at halftime! Bad Boy’s French Montana And Machine Gun Kelly Reveal Features For Upcoming Debut Albums

French Montana and Machine Gun Kelly

(AllHipHop News) Bad Boy recording artists French Montana and Machine Gun Kelly (MGK), who are both at work on their upcoming debut albums, Excuse My French and Lace Up respectively, have revealed a few upcoming features on their respective releases set for later this year.
“You got The Weeknd, you got Max B, you got Coke Boys, you got Kanye, Big Sean, you got Wiz Khalifa,” French toldPuna.NL during a recent trip to Amsterdam to perform at the Appelsap Music Festival.
The Bad Boy/MMG rapper continued, “You got a lot of features, Puff, Ross, but for the simple fact that it’s an album I’m taking my time. My mixtapes I take my time, but I never treated it like [an album]. My album is the big one.”
French Montana’s Bad Boy labelmate, MGK, also revealed some of the collaborations that fans can expect to hear when Lace Up is released in August while speaking with VladTV.
“I got legends on there,” MGK said. “DMX. Me, Tech N9ne and Twista on one track, the song everybody wanted to hear. Fuckin’ Eminem, I’m just playing. That would have been certified platinum…Bun B. Everyone’s really like legends.”
While speaking on both his album’s title and movement, MGK said, “Lace Up is a lifestyle. Everything I stand for, it’s everything my fans stand for. It’s tattooed on our bodies for life. It’s something I will never explain to the general public because it’s something beautiful that you have to discover for yourself. You have to find your own meaning in it.
“The album is definitely one of the best albums of the decade,” he boldly stated. “[It] will be a problem at the Grammy’s 100%. Regardless if my singles haven’t taken off the way that we wanted them to it’s all a part of the journey because I believe that because I never caught that quick-winded hype I’ll be around for a long, long time.”
MGK’s Lace Up is expected to hit stores in August, while French Montana’s Excuse My French is slated to drop late this year.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Did Eminem Sign Another White Rapper?

logic

Earlier this year, I came down pretty hard on a kid named Young Sinatra! Well, he did a song where he sounded JUST like Drake and it was a big thumbs down. But, after listening to a bit more of of his music, he’s pretty darn talented. Well, rappers of a lighter shade are all the rage now. Eminem seems like he’s got favor with White America. Yelawolf seems to be working out OK in the underworld. But, I think Em and crew are looking for another face to represent Shady 2.0 and that’s Logic. Its heavily rumored from my sources that Eminem is looking to sign the dude. And for good reason…he’s lighter content than Yela and Em and that’s what’s poppin’ with the teens and the tweens. Right now, I’m hearing they have Logic in “training” for the bigger picture.
On the flip side, I’ve heard some grumblings that Yelawolf is not all that happy with his situation at Shady. I hearing that he’s not very happy that he’s sort of on the sidelines. Publicly this has been mostly directed to Interscope, but there’s also a bit of perturbness to Eminem. Not sure what is being expected of him, but I think people, Yela included, thought Eminem meant a slam dunk into the commercial world. Didn’t happen. Yela has a new project coming out. We’ll support it, because he’s dope. Hopefully, everybody else will too.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Did Chris Brown Make Homophobic Comments About Frank Ocean?

Chris Brown and Frank Ocean Drama just seems to follow Chris Brown everywhere he goes, doesn’t it? Breezy is in the headlines again today for making what some have reported to be homophobic comments about Frank Ocean. While in Cannes, France over the weekend, a paparazzi asked him his thoughts on Ocean coming out of the closet. Brown responded with, “Man, no homo.” Those in Hip-Hop know that the catchphrase that is popular right now and is not meant to be homophobic.

Unfortunately for Brown, the international press has run with it, and linked his comments to his beef with Frank Ocean last year. If you guys remember, Brown and Ocean got into a Twitter beef when Brown gave Frank a back-handed compliment. Frank then went on to compare Breezy to Sisqo and Ike Turner. The beef quickly turned real when Ocean and members of Odd Future were reportedly chased down in a car by alleged members of Breezy’s camp.
Anyway, Brown responded on Twitter and clarified his feelings on Frank Ocean and his sexuality. Check out what he tweeted below:
My opinion on the whole Frank Ocean subject is…love who you want to love,”Brown tweeted today. It’s your decision. People stop searching for BS.”

The 23-year-old went on to chastise judgmental people on the social networking website.
Everyone is so quick to point the wrong fingers at each other,” Brown tweeted. “Ask yourself…Am I doing everything I can to help the world?
The singer told his close to 11 million followers about the importance of individuality.
The world is so bent on social acceptance that we’ve forgotten what makes us special,” Brown tweeted. “Our individuality! #I’mdone #readabook.”
In related news, we are hearing rumors that Chris Brown may be receiving the pink slip from his record label RCA if his new album Fortune doesn’t live up to their expectations. According to a label insider, RCA is planning on “trimming the fat” from its label, which means underperforming artists will be getting the heav-hoe.
RCA inherited recent Grammy winner Chris Brown after they merged with Jive Records three years ago. They were intimidated by his “tarnished image,” but wanted to see if he could produce stellar album sales. Since the merger, Brown’s only record to go Gold wasF.A.M.E., and his personal life continues to be an issue for the lab
el.

The label is allegedly giving Breezy until the end of this summer to see if his new album,Fortune, does real numbers. If not, Breezy could find himself without a label home. Breezy’s new single, “Don’t Judge Me”, the fifth single from Fortune was released over the weekend. You can check out the track below:

Havoc also addresses the alleged diss record, “Same Sh*t, Different Day”, he reportedly recorded towards Prodigy. Check out what he told Chuck “Jigsaw” Creekmur of AlHipHop.com exclusively below:
“I like to write, and a lot of times when I say things, it can cater to anybody,” Havoc said. “I’m always on some sh*t where I’m like, if the shoe fits, then wear it.”

Hip-Hop Rumors: Does Yeezy Have Something To Confess To Kim Kardashian?

Kanye West and Kim Kardashian

Yikes! Could this blind item be about Yeezy and Kim? If not, who are some of your guesses?

‘Love and Hip Hop Atlanta’: Benzino damages Karlie’s career?

Karlie Redd's manager thinks her relationship with Benzino is damaging to her career on 'Love and Hip Hop Atlanta' episode 7

On “Love and Hip Hop Atlanta” episode 7, we meet Karlie’s manager Malcolm Miles, who not only thinks Karlie has lost focus when it has come to her career, but believes that her relationship with Benzino might end up permanently damaging it even begins.
“What’s been going on with this Benzino guy?” Malcolm asks Karlie.
“What Benzino guy?” asks Karlie.
“Benzino…’Source’ magazine” replies Miles.
Reluctantly, Karlie gives up the information.
“We’re dating … We’re seeing each other. I like him. He loves me,” says Karlie.
“Shut up, Karlie,” Malcolm tells his artist.
In her confessional, Karlie then explains why it seems dating Benzino is such a big problem for her manager—and maybe for her career.
“As time went on, [Benzino] p****d a lot of people off. People don’t want to mess with him. People don’t wanna work with him,” Karlie tells viewers in this scene, which can be watched in VH1’s exclusive sneak peek for episode 7 of “Love and Hip Hop Atlanta.”
“But I’m really digging [Benzino] now,” Karlie adds.
Even after Karlie tries to tell her manager that she’s not only dating Benzino, but hoping to work with him in the studio, Miles clearly still isn’t on board.
“If it’s somebody who’s hot and relevant, and going to put you in a certain light, then maybe,” he says.
“That’s so wrong,” Karlie says, laughing.
“But it’s the truth,” replies Miles.
“Every woman needs love,” replies Karlie.
“Well guess what…you want love or you want a career right now?” Miles tells Karlie.
Episode 7 of "Love & Hip Hop Atlanta" will also feature K Michelle, who writes and sings a songto Mimi--which of course makes reference to both Joseline and Stevie J.
And if you've been wondering whether or not there will actually be a "Love and Hip Hop Atlanta" reunion, producer Mona Scott Young has your answer.

Trayvon Martin: Zimmerman’s Wife Pleads Not Guilty to Perjury

Shellie Zimmerman, wife of George Zimmerman

Shellie Zimmerman, wife of admitted killerGeorge Zimmerman, 28, has entered a plea of not guilty to perjury charges, reports theHuffingtonPost.com.
She will be arraigned Tuesday on the charge after Judge Ken Lester said she lied under oath about how much money had been collected via the website TheRealGeorgeZimmerman.com to assist with funding her husband’s self-defense case.
See Shellie Zimmerman’s arrest warrant here.
As previously reported by NewsOne, Prosecutor Bernie De la Rionda presented Judge Lester with a partial transcript of telephone conversations Zimmerman had with his wife from jail. Discussing the amount of money they had, Zimmerman spoke in code to tell his wife how to make fund transfers. The code referred to amounts of “$15″ in place of “$150,000.”
When Shellie Zimmerman was asked at the bond hearing how much money was raised from the website, she said, “Currently, I do not know.”

Records proved that she knowingly transferred more than $85,500 from her bank account into her husband’s account. The affidavit also said that jail call records show that George Zimmerman instructed her to “pay off all the bills,” including an American Express and Sam’s Club card.
Shellie was arrested and released on $1,000 bond the same day.
Explaining why he was taking measures against the Zimmermans, including revoking his $150,000 bail, Judge Lester had this to say:
“It was apparent that Zimmerman’s wife had lied under oath, and clear that Zimmerman does not properly respect the law.”
As previously reported by NewsOne, George Zimmerman, who killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martinon February 26, is reportedly staying in a safe house after being released a second time from custody after lying about his finances in his first bail hearing.

LONDON -- Hardly dreamy, still dominant.
Kevin Durant scored 22 points, LeBron James added eight assists and the U.S. Olympic men's basketball team opened tournament play with a rough-and-ragged 98-71 win over France on Sunday.
Seeking a second straight gold medal to match the one they won in Beijing four years ago, the Americans expected a tough test from a French team featuring San Antonio guard Tony Parker and five other NBA players.
The U.S. was never in real trouble, and after overcoming some major foul issues and sloppy play, the superstar-laden squad finally put France away in the second half.
"It wasn't perfect," James said. "We've still got room for improvement. We had too many turnovers, too many fouls and we had a couple of defensive rebounds we could have come up with. But overall, we played a pretty good game for as close to 40 minutes as possible."
Kobe Bryant had said this team could beat the 1992 Dream Team that changed international hoops forever at the Barcelona Games. That matchup is mythical, but the London Games aren't and this U.S. team will have to play much better in upcoming Games if it plans to maintain American dominance.
Parker didn't want to concede anything, but when asked if the Americans can be beat, he took a contemplative pause before responding.
"They're going to be very, very tough to beat," Parker said.
U.S. point guard Chris Paul wasn't concerned about the sluggish offensive performance to start the game.
"We got off to a slow start, probably a little too anxious," he said. "Like we've been saying all along, our defense is what makes us so good. As long as we do that, we'll have a chance."
With First Lady Michelle Obama on hand to cheer on the U.S., Durant, Carmelo Anthony andTyson Chandler added nine rebounds apiece and Kevin Love finished with 14 points for the Americans. The U.S. will next play Tuesday against Tunisia, beaten 60-56 by Nigeria in the tournament opener.
As they left the floor, the U.S. players stopped to hug the first lady.
Parker, playing with goggles to protect a surgically repaired left eye, scored 10 points but France, which trailed by just one point after the first quarter, fell to 0-5 in Olympic competition against the USA. Ali Traore led the French with 12 points.
With the U.S. leading 52-36 at halftime, Durant opened the second half with a 3-pointer, Bryant dropped one from long range and after James dunked an alley-oop pass from Deron Williams, the Americans led 64-43.
Au revoir, France.
"We're trying to figure out how to play with the rhythm of the game," Anthony said. "Once we figured that out, we were good."
The U.S. team's lead ballooned to 78-51 after three quarters, allowing coach Mike Krzyzewski to rest Bryant, James and Durant for most of the fourth quarter. With the game well in hand, Krzyzewski even gave 19-year-old Anthony Davis, the top pick in June's NBA draft, his first taste of Olympic play.
Unlike his peers, Krzyzewski has the luxury of a deep bench and he was forced to go to it early and often in the first half, when the Americans racked up fouls.
[+] EnlargeDurant
Jesse D. Garrabrant/NBAE/Getty ImagesKevin Durant led Team USA with 22 points Sunday during a rough-and-ragged win over France.
After the U.S. started the game by missing its first six three-point attempts, Bryant, James and Durant started finding the range from beyond the arc. The trio finished the game a combined 6 for 12 from three-point range while the rest of the U.S. went 2 for 13.
Parker nearly missed these Olympics. The 30-year-old recently underwent surgery after he was hit with broken glass during a nightclub fight in New York. Parker was not involved in the bottle-throwing melee between R&B singer Chris Brown and members of rapper Drake's entourage.
He was able to break down the U.S. defense early on, but once the Americans forced the ball from his hands, the French had no one else to turn to.
American's multimillion dollar conglomerate of hoop talent came out of the locker room singing on the way to the floor for pregame warmups. Their chants caught the attention of several Brazilian players still doing interviews following a tight opening win over Australia.
As Bryant, James and Durant filed onto the hardwood, some of France's players turned to take a look.
The U.S. players weren't nearly so jovial at halftime following a sloppy, foul-filled first half in which the Americans were whistled for 18 personals and complained about some calls. Anthony and Russell Westbrook spent the final six minutes of the second quarter on the bench after picking up their third fouls.
A few days ago, France's Ronny Turiaf likened the U.S. team's ability to play big or small to a two-faced beast.
"That team is like a Gemini," said Turiaf, who will play with Paul and the Clippers next season. "They have two faces, a nightmare-nightmare."
But the U.S. team was its own worst enemy in the first quarter. Too often, the American settled for jump shots rather than driving to the basket. The Americans missed all six 3-pointers in the opening period, and when France's Yannick Bokolo drained a 3 in the final second, France was within 22-21.
France's Nicolas Batum, who plays for the Portland Trail Blazers, said he thought after being up by only one point after the first quarter that the U.S. would "panic."
The "second quarter, it was 0-0 new game for them," Batum said. "They started to defend us, make some big shots."
James opened the second quarter with a 3 and the U.S. quickly went on an 11-0 run before it was slowed down by a rash of fouls -- several of them needless.
Fortunately for the Americans, the French made only 1 of 11 3-pointers and missed seven free throws, allowing the U.S. to take a 52-36 halftime lead.
